Brussels: Delphi Event in the European Parliament

On the 13th of July 2016, the results of the “Delphi Energy Future 2040” were discussed in the European Parliament in Brussels. In a joint event with MEP Reinhard Bütikofer (Greens/EFA) the study results were introduced by Dr. Christoph Beier, vice-chair of the GIZ managing board, and Stefan Kapferer, Chairman of the General Executive Management Board of BDEW. They were then commented on by Stefaan Vergote of the European Commission (DG ENER), who elaborated on the implications of the study’s results and remarked how energy foresight can and should be used in policy-making.

The main focus of the event, was the following interaction of the more than 50 participants with the speakers, who engaged in an insightful discussion chaired by MEP Bütikofer. The participants were energy stakeholders with diverse professional backgrounds, ranging from business and industry representative to policy-makers and think tanks. Next to methodological issues, the impact of digitalization on the energy sector as well as the consequences of developments in European policy-making and international industry policies for the energy sector in Europe and worldwide were eagerly discussed topics.
